Welcome to The Good Life!

٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶

Hello and welcome to our little part of cyberspace! I'm Viki and live with my husband, best friend and personal chef Paul at the top of the Elham Valley! Our friends refer to us as Tom and Barbara, because we're basically trying to live The Good Life! We run a business called Valley Crafts UK selling our own handmade and handpainted thingymabobs on Etsy - www.valleycraftsuk.com

We are owned by two cats and have a random number of chickens - including some of our neighbour's birds which tend to pop by from time to time... Paul can mostly be found in his workshop creating wondrous things out of wood, like chicken arks and cat houses, or in the kitchen making delicious fudge and chutneys. I spend most of my time in the office/craft room where I knit, crochet, attempt to learn to sew, and paint traditional canalia (that's "roses and castles" style painting).

We grow our own veg, brew our own beers and wines, make chutney, eat free-range eggs from our own chickens and are a hybrid of country bumpkins and cool hippies with some boho chic thrown in for good measure.

Sweet Dreams… - Weeks 13-17

I haven’t blogged week-by-week recently partly because the past few weeks have whizzed by, and partly because there’s not been that much change since the last scan, apart from my ever expanding waistline! I can’t believe it’s been 17 weeks already - and we’re near the end of February! I keep thinking that August 3rd is a long way off, but actually time seems to be flying by and the next midwife appointment always seems to come around really quickly.

Our last midwife appointment was two weeks ago and we actually heard Baby’s heartbeat for the first time! It took her a while to find it (Baby was hiding behind my bladder… as you do…), but with a lot of persistence she got there and we heard a healthy 140 beats per minute. It’s hard to believe that Baby could be about 5 and a half inches long now, but I’m certainly feeling (and looking!), a lot more pregnant. Physically I’m feeling MUCH better - eating far too much because of quitting smoking, but I’m eating as healthy as I can and I’d rather eat lots than smoke at all! As I’ve said my waistline is ever expanding and, in a way, feeling and LOOKING pregnant is reassuring. My skin is really dry so I’m putting baby oil in my baths which is helping. I have had TERRIBLE itchy skin, like there’s creepy crawlies walking about under there! After a little research, I’m pleased to say I’m not alone: not only does your skin itch on your belly because it’s stretching, but all over your body your blood vessels are closer to the surface of the skin which can make you feel… well, itchy! No one tells you about this weird stuff before hand… :-)

Sleeping is once again an issue - it’s not because I’m suffering from insomnia anymore, but because I keep having TERRIBLE dreams! I’m a dreamer anyway - they were always vivid and memorable, but never bad. Recently they’ve been terrifying. I’ve taken to having a good read before bed rather than watching TV or playing on the Playstation… I’ve already had Call of Duty dreams and let me tell you: they weren’t as fun as playing the game in the real world! :-D I have an appointment with the consultant on Wednesday - I’m out of midwife care for a while now so they can keep an eye on my kidney and make sure everything’s going ok, but it feels fine at the moment. Our next scan isn’t that far away - 20th March and we’ll get to see the little one again and hopefully have an accurate representation of the sex! I’ll be halfway there by that time :-) Everyday it’s getting more exciting, despite the lack of sleep and minor discomfort around the waistline! ;-)
