Welcome to The Good Life!

٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶

Hello and welcome to our little part of cyberspace! I'm Viki and live with my husband, best friend and personal chef Paul at the top of the Elham Valley! Our friends refer to us as Tom and Barbara, because we're basically trying to live The Good Life! We run a business called Valley Crafts UK selling our own handmade and handpainted thingymabobs on Etsy - www.valleycraftsuk.com

We are owned by two cats and have a random number of chickens - including some of our neighbour's birds which tend to pop by from time to time... Paul can mostly be found in his workshop creating wondrous things out of wood, like chicken arks and cat houses, or in the kitchen making delicious fudge and chutneys. I spend most of my time in the office/craft room where I knit, crochet, attempt to learn to sew, and paint traditional canalia (that's "roses and castles" style painting).

We grow our own veg, brew our own beers and wines, make chutney, eat free-range eggs from our own chickens and are a hybrid of country bumpkins and cool hippies with some boho chic thrown in for good measure.

The Krafty Lady is Closed!

So, I’ve done it, I’ve closed The Krafty Lady. There’s still loads of job lots on our eBay account up for grabs if you fancy a gander, but by 31st March we will be no more!

It’s been an epic 4 years - from eBay to our own website, then back to eBay again, and all the time we’ve had so much support from you guys and girls, thank you so much!

We’ve learned plenty whilst we’ve been on our journey. Enough - I think anyway - to set up the new business and make it a real success. We’ve both got so many ideas now. It hasn’t always been easy but we made it!

We’re not closing because business was bad - in fact, this year has been our best year yet - but we both feel that due to the competition for ‘cheap’ items on eBay and the fact that there is now so much competition between Fair Trade shops, plus the higher prices that are now put on Fair Trade items, it just wouldn’t be fair to our customers to carry on. Sometimes, and this is by no means always true, just occasionally, Fair Trade is no longer ethical. For instance, we sold a recycled wrapper wallet at £7.99p and saw EXACTLY the same wallet in a shop window in London for £34.99p!! Whilst the people that make the goods are getting a fair price, when their products get over here some muppets are reaping a huge profit and, in my opinion, taking advantage of their customers. Whilst I now understand that you have to be a bit mercenary when it comes to running a business, this doesn’t always make it ethical - and that’s what The Krafty Lady was to us, ethical fashion in an unethical world!

But anyway, enough rambling, it’s all done with now and we have new projects to think about. Thanks again to everyone who has supported us over the past four years, we look forward to seeing you at the new shop or even farmer’s markets! I’ll be posting all the updates on here, Facebook and Twitter so you’ll know more in good time, but in the meantime THANK YOU! See you soon!
