Welcome to The Good Life!

٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶

Hello and welcome to our little part of cyberspace! I'm Viki and live with my husband, best friend and personal chef Paul at the top of the Elham Valley! Our friends refer to us as Tom and Barbara, because we're basically trying to live The Good Life! We run a business called Valley Crafts UK selling our own handmade and handpainted thingymabobs on Etsy - www.valleycraftsuk.com

We are owned by two cats and have a random number of chickens - including some of our neighbour's birds which tend to pop by from time to time... Paul can mostly be found in his workshop creating wondrous things out of wood, like chicken arks and cat houses, or in the kitchen making delicious fudge and chutneys. I spend most of my time in the office/craft room where I knit, crochet, attempt to learn to sew, and paint traditional canalia (that's "roses and castles" style painting).

We grow our own veg, brew our own beers and wines, make chutney, eat free-range eggs from our own chickens and are a hybrid of country bumpkins and cool hippies with some boho chic thrown in for good measure.

A Brief(ish!) Catch Up

Well, I haven’t been blogging much lately due to the tumblr app on my phone giving up completely. It really needs some updates - get to it tumblr!

Anyway, I think the last time I blogged properly was when the chicks were hatching! We now have two beautiful (rather ridiculous looking) chicks which are about 4 weeks old now. We should be able to sex them very soon but we think they’re both females so they’re safe from the cooking pot for now…

In other news I DID pass my driving test after all that stressing. Very pleased, only got 2 minors which is pretty good. Getting a new car in the next couple of months.

On the job front I’ve found a little part time job to keep me occupied whilst we’re stockpiling handmade items for our new business venture. It’s called ‘Oak & Rope’ and it’s literally just over the very tiny road from where I live, so learning to drive seems kind of pointless now! Haha! It’s our landlord’s wife’s business and I’m in charge of dispatch and a few admin things, as well as learning some new woodworking skills in the process. I’ve been there two weeks now and I’m still enjoying it (to a point - it’s work, no one likes work!).

Paul’s got some new tools for his workshop and has made a fine storage chest for the neighbours and come up with some awesome ideas for other things to make from reclaimed timber - you’ll be able to see them all in Valley Crafts UK soon!

The cats are fine - not behaving themselves, but fine! I’ve had a lot of live - and dead - gifts this week… :-S

Well, I told you this would be brief and I must dash! *Sad face* It’s Paul’s birthday and my sister’s 18th this week so we’re having a big birthday barbecue next Sunday which I need to prepare for - I’m making cakes :-O There’s also a couple of other surprises which I can’t mention in case certain people are reading this… ;-) But I’ll let you know when I can!

For now I will quit the babble and get back to my knitting and coffee! Missed you all lots!!
